It`s the week before April break and that means it`s Spirit Week at SRS! Here are some of the Middle School students dressed up for "squad up day”—a day for groups to dress in a theme.

Last week, 58 students performed in the Shaker Road School spring music recitals on a variety of instruments including piano, trumpet, drums, clarinet, voice, guitar, bass, flute, ukulele, violin, and saxophone. Several students performed on more than one instrument, some played together in pairs or small groups, and a couple played an instrument while singing. It was a treat to hear a couple of the parents play along with their children!
We are lucky to have a team of experienced music instructors at SRS including Mrs. Minsinger, Mr. Solsky, Mrs. Potter, Mr. Steer, Mrs. Elsman, and Mr. Robinson. Thanks to them and the parents for supporting these young musicians, and to the students who shared their music with us!

What a show! The Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth Grade dance recital on Saturday was amazing! Close to 100 students performed on stage at the Concord City Auditorium in 24 separate numbers including tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical, hip hop and tumbling routines. These students have been learning and practicing since the fall and we are so proud of them! A big THANK YOU to Casey Nameche for her leadership of and devotion to the SRS dance program! Thanks, too, to the many faculty and staff who helped out backstage and with costumes, props, music, and more. We are grateful to the SRS parents for their support of performing arts at Shaker Road School!

Congratulations to the Middle School drama students who gave an outstanding performance of Shrek Jr. the Musical last Friday evening at the City Auditorium! These students put in an extraordinary amount of time and work preparing for this production and we are proud of their level of commitment, support of and respect for each other, and their demonstrated teamwork!
Thanks to Sammi Daniels, Rachel Minsinger, Patti Hicks, and Jay Lewis for their time and dedication directing this crew, and to the many faculty and staff who helped with costumes, technical support, ticket sales, ushering, and more. We also appreciate the unwavering support from the drama parents throughout the entire season!

The SRS Science Fair was the exciting culmination of weeks of research and hard work by our Kindergarten through Eighth Grade students. Each class embarked on a unique scientific journey and shared their findings in a creative showcase of projects.

Sixth Grade used their understanding of ecosystems together with their knowledge of geography to develop virtual visitor centers that highlight some of the unique ecosystems in Africa.
Seventh Grade studied different weather systems and created displays and dioramas to share their work.
Eighth Grade studied planets in our solar system. They came up with compelling reasons to travel to our unique neighbors and shared their work through presentations and models.

This week in "extreme science" with Mr. Hicks and Mrs. Linden, Middle School students experimented with Peeps candy in a microwave and in a vacuum, made fog-filled bubbles with dry ice, and ended the class with a flaming bubbles demonstration!
The Middle School Enrichment block takes place every Wednesday and this spring, in addition to extreme science, includes drawing, ceramics, film making, and rock band. Enrichment activities give our SRS students the opportunity to dive deeper into a favorite activity or to try their hand at something new.

The SRS PTG has ordered a limited number of flower bouquets from Cole Gardens for SRS families to pre-buy for the upcoming dance recital on Saturday. For your convenience, flowers will be reserved for pick-up at the Concord City Auditorium on April 6!

Under Mr. Solsky`s direction, the Middle School Rock Band meets weekly and has been practicing their songs for the May chorus and band concert. This concert is special because it`s held outside during the school day, so the entire school is the audience (as well as those parents and grandparents who are able to come). The set list currently includes "Africa," "Island in the Sun," "Better than Revenge," and "Hooked on a Feeling." We`re excited to hear the results of all their hard work!

Kindergarten through Eighth Grade is gearing up for the Science Fair, taking place on Thursday evening. Pictured here are Ms. Poirier`s First Grade students who are putting the final touches on their animal habitat projects. Our Kindergarten students are making monsters in art class! To start the project, they applied water-based markers to filter paper to create the monster heads. After spraying the paper with water, the marker ink turned into beautiful watercolor designs. Students then applied construction paper shapes and used markers to create monster features like teeth, eyes, hair, hats, and more. Each monster is wonderfully unique, just like each of our Kindergarteners!
